Bellevue woman wins $230,000 in Lottery

Karon Boothe, 29, moved to Bellevue from Alabama four years ago, and it’s a good thing she did – without that move, she wouldn’t have won $230,000 in Washington’s Lottery.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, Boothe purchased a Hit 5 ticket for that evening’s drawing. Shortly after when she checked her ticket for the winning numbers, she discovered that the two matched.

“I’m a little shocked,” said Boothe. “I’m not overly excited – just shocked!”

Once the initial disbelief wore off, Boothe realized she was going to have to wait a little longer than normal to claim her prize – it was the Labor Day weekend and Lottery offices would not open again until Tuesday, Sept. 4.

“It wasn’t ‘final’ for me until I had the check, so I just tried to be patient and let it all soak in over the weekend,” she said.

Boothe, who works as a dental office manager, already knows what she’ll do with the money.

“I want to make sure my daughter is taken care of, so I’ll be setting aside money for her,” said Boothe, adding that she may buy a new car and also give some of the winnings to an organization or individual she thinks needs it.

Boothe matched numbers 11-12-16-19-36 in the drawing. She bought her ticket at the Shell station located at 13138 Interurban Ave. S. in Tukwila.
