Local horse owners will have a chance to learn the latest approach to manure management and how healthy horses lead to a healthy environment at a free workshop from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Bellevue Golf Course, 5500 140th Ave. N.E.

Alayne Blickle of Horses for Clean Water and equine veterinarian Dr. Hank Greenwald will talk on topics such as a holistic approach to parasite control and manure management, how to compost horse manure, off-site options for dealing with stall waste and the latest techniques for reducing stall waste in the barn.

This program is funded by a grant from King Conservation District in partnership with the cities of Bellevue and Kirkland, and Horses for Clean Water. The Lake Washington Saddle Club estimates there are approximately 300 horses in the Bridle Trails area. One horse can generate 40-50 pounds of manure a day, which, if poorly managed, can impact horse health and pollute local waterways.
