King County Sexual Assault Resource Center is launching a new web-based toolkit to help parents have conversations with their teens about sex and safety. Research shows that open communication with trusted adults decreases youth vulnerability to abuse and assault.

“100 Conversations gives adults concrete, practical ways to reduce the risk of sexual assault and it’s what our young people are asking for,” said Mary Ellen Stone, the center’s executive director. “It is revolutionizing the way we have these important conversations.”

Focus groups conducted with young people in King County showed that most youth already do many things to keep themselves safe. However, they also clearly stated they want to hear from their parents on subjects related to relationships, sex, and safety.
