Variable speed limit signs coming for floating bridge work

The first variable speed limit signs in the Puget Sound area will be turned on Tuesday morning on I-90 as the state prepares to close several lanes for repairs on the floating bridge.

The state plans to replace two 40-ton expansion joints that are cracked and need replacing.

When the signs are turned on Tuesday, they will show “60 mph” and the variable speed limit system will be fully activated by the Tuesday evening commute.

The Washington State Patrol is expected to enforce the variable speed limits.
