Emmy-nominated star Rachel Coleman is bringing her singing – and signing – talents to Bellevue this week for a family-friendly concert at the Highland Community Center. Renowned for her work on the PBS children’s show, “Signing Time,” (which she also co-created) Coleman is in town for the annual Washington Recreation and Park Association Conference, taking place May 1 – 4 at the Meydenbauer Center.
“Signing Time” reaches children with diverse learning styles and encourages interaction through signing, singing, speaking and moving. The concert, sponsored by the WRPA Washington and Bellevue Parks & Community Services, will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 4, and will feature Coleman performing selections from the show as well as sharing personal stories that helped inspire the music. The cost is $7.50 for children under 15 and $12 for adults and children over 16.
Tickets are currently available at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/227828 – but a limited number of tickets will also be available at the door the day of the event. Following the concert, attendees will be able to participate in a meet and greet with Coleman at which she will be available to take pictures and sign event merchandise.
The community center is also seeking volunteers ages 18 and up (accommodations can be made for student volunteers 15+) willing to help with the set up and taking down of chairs before and after the event. Volunteers will be granted free admission for themselves and one child, permitting they are unencumbered by said child during volunteer hours. Volunteers can sign up via the online ticket by entering the discount code “SetupHelp” or by contacting Colin Walker at 425-452-7248 or cwalker@bellevuewa.gov.
