Idylwood Park

The Idylwood resort on Lake Sammamish was a popular warm weather destination for East Siders. In the 1920’s a string of resorts sprung up around Lake Sammamish, offering public waterfront access, rental cottages, boat rentals and lifeguarded swim areas. In addition to Idylwood, other Lake Sammamish resorts included Gateway Grove, Vasa Park, Shamrock Cottage, Pete’s Place, and Shady Beach. Idylwood was just north of Gateway Grove, and in 1974 the two resort properties were purchased by King County and are now public beaches and parks.

In this photo, a casual game of baseball is under way, and Lake Sammamish is visible through the trees.
