Dr. Charles Aanenson will describe how his organization — Peace Winds America — is providing direct relief to the northeast area of Japan in a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. May 10 at Bellevue City Hall.

Aanenson’s talk has been arranged by the Bellevue Sister Cities Association (BSCA).

Aanenson is a graduate of Washington State University and holds a doctoral degree in public administration from Indiana University. Between 1979 and 2008, he served in the Foreign Service of the United States in Indonesia, Pakistan, Poland, Croatia and Japan.

At the U.S. Tokyo embassy, he helped coordinate American and Japanese programs for international aid — an assignment that helped lead him, after retiring, to found and now head up Peace Winds America.
