A 75-year-old Bellevue man arrested after a three-hour standoff last week has been charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree assault.
Irving Craig Poling, 75, is being held on $50,000 bail and will be arraigned on June 15 in Seattle.
The events began when Poling entered an unlocked front door of a home on the 6400 block of 129th Place Southeast, according to court documents. He was not invited into the home, but began ranting about a plumber he and the resident knew who was involved in a kitchen remodel at Poling’s home. Poling encountered the plumber in the home and hit him in the chest with his 22-caliber handgun when the plumber tried to confront him, Bellevue Det. Jerry Johnson wrote in court documents. He threatened to shoot the plumber before leaving.
According to court documents, Poling drove home to a house on the 12500 block of Southeast 52nd Street. Following a 911 call from the house Poling had just left, police arrived at the suspect’s home. He barricaded himself inside. He fired a single gun shot into the air during the standoff.
Several hours later, he surrendered, and Bellevue police investigated the home. Officers found the gun Poling allegedly pointed at the plumber, along with a number of other firearms.
Poling denied threatening to shoot the plumber, but admits he brought the gun to the house to make sure he got the money the plumber owed him.
