For the second year, Overlake Terrace, an assisted living community in the Overlake area, held a “Shave-a-Thon” event to raise donations for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. This year, the event raised $2,831.

At the Oct. 8 event, five individuals — David Standring, Melahat Yagiz, Shabani Ramandani, Roberto Lauria and Jun Hizon — agreed to have their heads shaved by Nancy Chaney.

Standring, who is the personal preferences coordinator at Overlake Terrace, also sold wax strips to have his legs waxed.

The inspiration to raise money was Standring’s sister, Ann, who lost a 10-year battle with breast cancer in 2007.
