Semi fire closes westbound I-90 near North Bend

A collision between a semi truck and a dump truck Tuesday has sent one person to the hospital and has closed I-90 westbound at milepost 31.

The collision occurred in the early morning hours of June 16. The semi truck, carrying a load of carpet, struck a dump truck hauling a trailer with a small excavator. The carpet and semi truck caught on fire, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The excavator was used to remove carpet from the semi truck, where the carpet was removed to extinguish the fire. The semi truck and dump truck were the only vehicles involved. The passenger of the semi truck was taken to Harborview Medical Center. It was unknown what their condition was at the time of publication.

Eastbound I-90 remains open.
