Seattle-area minister, and Bellevue Boys and Girls Club employee, charged with child molestation

County prosecutors have filed four charges of child molestation, and one count of child rape, against an employee of the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club, accusing him of engaging in sexual acts with at least four boys since 1999. Timothy L. Dampier, 37, was arrested by Seattle police following an investigation that began on April 25 when a now 21-year-old former victim told a minister of a Seattle church that he had been molested by Dampier, a recently hired musician at the church. He came forward out of fear for the safety of the other children at the church, Seattle police Det. Donna Stangeland wrote to the court.

Police were notified by the minister, and learned that Dampier “had been investigated for suspicion of inappropriate sexual contact with children on at least four prior occasions, but that victims and witnesses would not cooperate with investigations at that time,” Stangeland wrote. “Consequently, Dampier was not charged.”

Dampier has since been suspended from his position at the Boys and Girls Club as the investigation remains ongoing. Dampier is also a licensed foster parent, a counselor in various group homes and a musician at several Seattle-area churches, according to court documents.

Seattle police were able to get three other victims to talk about sexual encounters they had with Dampier when they were between the ages of 11 and 13.

Police interviewed another boy who stayed with Dampier at his Seattle apartment in March. He said he and his brother lived with Dampier in 2006 at another residence and found pornographic material of teenaged boys. He told his mother, but denied being abused by Dampier.

The boy said while he was staying with him in March, two boys Dampier met at the Boys and Girls Club spent the night. Dampier denied any sexual activity with the two visitors.

When police interviewed Dampier he admitted to touching one boy’s penis and having oral sex with another. He also admitted to photographing a boy with his pants down and secretly videotaping another. He said the video tape only occurred because he set up a camera to see if someone was stealing from him.

Dampier admitted to engaging in “playful sexual touching” with several other boys while playing a “sexual game.”

“It is anticipated that numerous unknown victims exist, due to Dampier’s report that there were children involved in playing a sexual game with him, whose names he can’t remember, and his numerous contacts with multiple children, including his employment at multiple licensed group homes,” Stangeland wrote.

Dampier is currently being held on $500,000 bail, with arraignment set for May 23 at King County Courthouse.
