School board continues meetings on superintendent search

The Bellevue School Board took another step Thursday night in determining how it will go about seeking a new superintendent.

The Bellevue School Board took another step Thursday night in determining how it will go about seeking a new superintendent.

Board members considered additional “desired superintendent characteristics” to add to a list prepared in 2008, the last time the district hired a superintendent.

School Supt. Amalia Cudeiro resigned in January, citing family issues. Her three-year contract would have expired this year.

The board has received letters from seven possible candidates, including Susan Enfield, the interim superintendent of the Seattle School District. Enfield was the No. 2 choice when Cudeiro was chosen.

Enfield has said she is not a candidate to be superintendent of the Seattle district, but has indicated a willingness to discuss the opening in Bellevue. She also is a finalist for the superintendent’s position in the Highline School District.

Assistant Supt. Eva Collins has assumed the superintendent duties in Bellevue, but has said she is not a candidate for that post.

During the Thursday night session, the Bellevue board also discussed how any interviews would take place, including staff and interest groups meeting with a candidate. No date or dates were set for such meetings, but the board could determine this on Monday when it holds another special meeting on the superintendent search. That meeting will be in the Rainier Room at the Wilburton Instructional Services Center, 12241 Main St., Bellevue.

The board also is expected to discuss developing questions for a feedback form, finalizing interview questions the board will be asking, and protocols for board interview questions.
