When Misbah Uraizee was in the sixth grade she became enamored by the Web. She decided to teach herself Web design and programming and shortly after opened her own Web company, Mihafa Design Studio.

As a senior at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, she now takes on multiple projects a year while balancing school, volunteer work, college applications and extra-curricular activities.

She has been accepted into the University of Washington Honors Program and was recently accepted to MIT. Out of the 15,661 applications for admission submitted to MIT, only 1,597 were accepted. Holding a 4.0 GPA, she is waiting to hear back from Yale, Duke, and Princeton among others before making her college-bound decision. She plans to pursue a degree in Cognitive Neuroscience.

To help cover the hefty cost of college fees, Misbah has won a $10,000 scholarship from both Coca Cola and Toyota. She is in the running as a finalist for $20,000 from Coca Cola and will be flown to Atlanta in April for the final determination.

Her busy pace has allowed Misbah to get involved in several Bellevue-based projects including designing her high school’s Web site. She worked closely with the athletic director at Sammamish to produce a site that would be both easy to maintain and to navigate.

“I wanted to give back to the school so I created a Web site from scratch and then taught them how to use the site and how to update it regularly,” she explained.

Throughout her school years, Misbah also has been involved in an array of activities. Last year she was the president of Skills USA. She is currently the secretary and Web master of the National Honors Society, the president of the Diversity and Cultural Club, Link Crew Leader, and a Youth Council Member for the city of Bellevue. She also designed the logo for Bellevue’s 24 Hour Relay Challenge and continues to work closely with the Jubilee Reach Center, raising funds for the Jub Hub Teen Cafe.

“I stay busy, but it’s all about time management and not booking meetings on the same day,” she joked. “I enjoy volunteering and working with the Web so it’s not really work to me.”
