An education advocacy group says Sammamish High School is “an exemplar school” when it comes to providing 21st century education for its students.

Earlier this month, the Partnership for 21st Century Skills selected the Bellevue school as part of its Exemplar Program, which showcases schools, educators and students from throughout the country, who have embraced the ideals of increasing educational options and outcomes for all students.

Sammamish High School principal Tom Duenwald said he and his staff were honored to be recognized for their ongoing work, adding the group’s criteria “aligns well with our approach to Problem Based Learning.”

According to Helen Soule, Partnership for 21st Century Skills executive director, Sammamish was selected along with 14 other schools after a rigorous application process, which evaluated each’s learning implementation.

She said Sammamish’s faculty, staff and students had “strong learning communities, leadership and the importance of student voice.”

Case studies on each of the schools chosen for the 2015 21st Century Learning Exemplars are underway and slated to be released early next year, according to Soule.
