Resource Fair coming to Sammamish High March 16

The third annual Education Road Show,”Raising Successful Students: tools and resources to make the job easier,” will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Sammamish High School. Guest speakers include Chris Marks of the Bellevue School Board and this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. James Mazza from the University of Washington Psychology Department.

Mazza will examine the topic of “Looking Beyond the Grade Point Average” and will discuss how vital it is to teach coping skills to children.

The event will include workshops on the AVID program; parent-teen mediation; the transition years from 5th to 6th and 8th to 9th grades, and a panel of successful students who have overcome obstacles and have advice they’d like to share with parents.

There will also be information booths representing programs that support parents and students. Representatives will be present from groups such as College Corps, Family Connections, Adult ESL, Special Education, VIBES, and the Gifted Parents Advisory Committee.

The Resource Fair will be from 6:30-9:00 p.m.; presentations will be from 7-8:45 p.m.
