A police stand off with a so-called ‘dangerous,’ armed Bellevue man ended peacefully after SWAT members used tear gas to storm the home he was hiding in.

The Bellevue Police received a 911 call concerning a 52-year-old man fighting verbally and physically with his elderly mother shortly before 8 p.m. on March 2. The mother reported that her son had assaulted her and then cut himself on his arms with a large knife.

The woman was able to exit her home on the 6050 block of 123rd Avenue shortly after police arrived at the scene.

Over the next several hours, officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, who did not respond. The SWAT team was eventually called in and used tear gas to take the man into custody. He received medical attention for non life-threatening injuries to his arms.
