Who's making news in Bellevue and the surrounding area this week.

 

Lucas Fiebig of Bellevue has been selected to participate in the 2012 DO-IT Scholars Program, which targets high school sophomores and juniors with disabilities in Washington State who are interested in pursuing higher education. Students spend 10 days living on campus and participating in an intensive program designed to promote college and career success. The students will learn about challenging careers in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

 

Victoria Breyer of Medina has been named to the dean’s list for spring 2012 at Tulane University. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 2011 and is the daughter of Steven Breyer and Rosalie Gann of Medina.

 

Matthew Kirk Lider, of Bellevue, has received a $1,000 Mt. Baker Products Design Center Scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year. Lider graduated from Sammamish High School in 2009 and is the son of Kirk and Carol Lider of Bellevue.

 

Two students from Bellevue who attend Eastside Catholic School were honored for their work in photography at this year’s Washington State High School Photography Competition. Each received a select finalist ribbon, indicating the photograph was in the top five percent of its category. Receiving ribbons were Caitlin Courshon (for “Animals”) and Austin Porcello (for “Color”). Courshon was also recognized as a select finalist in the Documentary category.

 

Members of the Cascade Chapter based in Bellevue were in attendance at the 121st Continental Congress, the annual convention of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In attendance were Regent Lanabeth Horgen, Honorary Regent Faye Kraft and Nancy Lovell. The DAR was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
