Bellevue Police officer puts in extra hours to catch Peeping Tom

Bellevue police arrested a suspected Peeping Tom as he went for a second look at a female’s home Wednesday.

A Bellevue woman on Tuesday called police due to strange noises outside her home on the 15900 block of Southeast 6th Place. She had partially opened a bathroom window during a shower around that time.

The woman discovered footprints outside the home, where she and her mother live. She also noticed a hose had been turned on.

Bellevue Police officer David Finney suspected the man would return, and asked the woman to set up a similar scenario the next day so he could stake out the house.

Early Wednesday morning, Finney saw a man walk to the back of the house. The victim said she witnessed a man reach through the open bathroom window to adjust the blinds, and she also saw the suspect’s face.

The woman called 911, and, after a chase, Finney managed to arrest the suspect about 75 feet from the house.

Police booked a 27-year-old Bellevue man into King County Jail on charges of voyeurism and residential burglary.

Finney, a patrol officer, showed up for the stakeout Wednesday before his scheduled shift because detectives weren’t available to follow his hunch.

“He went above and beyond to make sure he could get to this,” said Bellevue Police spokeswoman Marcia Harnden. “These women were unnerved by the situation, and Dave took it seriously.”
