Bellevue Parks Board Chairwoman Sherry Grindeland announced her candidacy for City Council Position 5 on Tuesday.

“Bellevue has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and the economic vitality we see downtown and elsewhere in the business community is exciting,” Grindeland said in statement of candidacy. “Now we need to make sure that the neighborhoods feel like they are being heard. To put it simply, I am running because I believe the community needs a voice.”

Grindeland is a former Bellevue Youth Link chairwoman and current secretary for the Eastside Heritage Center, Bellevue Kiwanis member and Studio East board member in Kirkland. She recently resigned as editor of the SnoValley Star newspaper to run for city council.

Council Position 5 is currently held by Mayor Claudia Balducci, who is running for election to the King County Council in District 6 against incumbent Jane Hague. Vandana Slatter also recently announced her candidacy for Council Position 5.
