The Paramount Theatre is helping people get into the Halloween spirit this season by featuring a showing of one of the first horror movies ever made.

In advance of the Broadway musical run at the Paramount slated for April, the Seattle Theatre Group and Trader Joe’s Silent Movie Monday’s is screening the original silent film adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney as the Phantom and Mary Philbin as Christine Daae.

Tickets for showing, Monday Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., are on sale now.

Since its release in 1925, the film, which made audience members at the time “scream and faint” during the Phantom’s unmasking, has inspired five remakes, a blockbuster musical, and is often considered among the greatest films ever made by critics.

Just like its New York City premiere, the film will be accompanied by organist Jim Riggs on the Mighty Wurlitzer.

Audience members are encouraged to wear fantastical, ostentatious, and ghastly masks. Various snacks will be provided by Trader Joe’s.
