Overlake Service League’s Drive for Dreams raises $153,000

The Drive for Dreams fundraiser for Overlake Service League raised $153,000 for the organization. The golfing event on May 24 featured celebrities Rosalynn Sumners, Olympic Silver Medalist Figure Skater; Sean Locklear, of the Seattle Seahawks and Jamie Huscroft, former National Hockey League player.

Event winners for the day were Sally Wright, $1,000 of the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop and Kim Brace, $1,280 in the 50-50 raffle.

During the auction portion of the fundraiser, a package including three days of play for two amateur golfers in a 54-hold tournament on three Pebble Beach courses went for $12,000. The package was provided by Lexus of Bellevue.

A Fund-a-Need incentive provided by restaurant owner John Howie motivated guests to donate at the $100 level. Howie offered a $50 gift certificate to Seastar Restaurant, John Howie Steak, or SPORT Restaurant and Bar, to every $100 Fund-a-Need donor. His efforts resulted in an additional $7,200 in a whirl of bidding. In total, the Fund-a-Need raised $37,850.

Proceeds from the 2010 Drive for Dreams will support Overlake Service League Focus on Youth and Emergency Assistance programs; providing new back to school clothing, enrichment opportunities, and educational grants for youth and support to prevent eviction and utility disconnection, and provide food, clothing, prescription medications, daycare and other vital services.
