Open Satellite to show architectural model making

Open Satellite will launch a biennial exhibition of architectural model making. This two-part exhibition will present models of recent projects from Portland-based Allied Works Architecture along with the winning results of a juried student competition from degree granting architecture programs in the Western US and Canada.

Each SUPERMODEL reoccurrence will have a new regional focus intended to highlight the work of one prominent architectural practice exhibited alongside the academic achievement of students from the same region.

The exhibition will run from Feb. 4 through March 13. Open Satellite is located at 989 112th Ave NE, Ste 102, Bellevue.

The opening event will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3

Open Satellite hours are Tuesday-Saturday noon to 6 p.m. More details are available at 425-454-7355, via e-mail at info@opensatellite.org or www.opensatellite.org.

Selected for the upcoming exhibition are a series of presentation and study models that serve to highlight the working methodology of the firm’s approach to architecture.

For the student portion, a panel of jurors selected work by 13 architecture students and recent graduates for inclusion in the exhibition. Of these 13, one grand prize winner will be awarded a cash prize of $1,500 and four honorable mentions will be awarded $250 each. Prize winners will be announced at the public opening on Feb. 3.

Open Satellite is a contemporary art exhibition hall. The residency-based program provides an opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists from outside the region to work for an extended period to create large-scale artwork in any medium. Exhibitions are staged four times annually with every fifth show focused on architecture as a critical position.
