Design professionals and people who live, own property or work downtown are invited to suggest ways they would like to see the area develop at an open house for the Downtown Livability Initiative, Thursday, Nov. 29, at City Hall.

The city is considering whether to change zoning regulations and design guidelines for Bellevue’s fastest growing residential area. The open house and scoping meeting will be 5-7 p.m., with a formal welcome and presentation at 5:30.

The open house will engage a wide range of stakeholders including property owners, design professionals, residents and the downtown workforce. There will be displays of downtown amenities, design features and mobility, along with three-dimensional modeling of the area in the future. Maps and graphics will show many facets of downtown living, including public spaces, parks, building form and height, design guidelines, sign criteria, maintenance standards and the pedestrian corridor.

Staff will be available to take input on the scope of the initiative. The public comment scoping period runs through Dec. 31, and early feedback is encouraged.

Outreach will be ongoing throughout the project, and the public is encouraged to sign up for alerts for updates on opportunities to participate, which may include open houses, meetings, tours and events throughout 2013.
