The planned residential community of Norwood Village on the Woodridge Hill was one of the earliest developments near Bellevue.

The planned residential community of Norwood Village on the Woodridge Hill was one of the earliest developments near Bellevue. The photo above shows the Hook family home, completed in 1950. Norwood Village was developed by the Veterans Mutual Building Association, which was founded by World War II veterans after the war in response to the housing shortage.  They purchased 30 acres for $875, and were given another 20 acres by adjacent landowners. By 1950, 60 families had arranged to purchase homes there and construction started.
