Construction crews will spend the next month installing new high-tech electronic signs on SR 520 between Bellevue and Seattle. Crews will close up to two lanes Sunday through Thursday nights, keeping at least one lane open to traffic at all times.
The project is part of the Smarter Highways initiative by the state.
From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, June 20 to July 18, crews will close up to two lanes in various locations of east- and westbound SR 520 between I-5 and 130th Ave NE (near I-405). At least one lane will remain open to traffic.
WSDOT plans to activate the new Smarter Highways signs on SR 520 later this year. The signs will alert drivers to reduce their speed or change lanes when there are collisions or backups on the road.
