Newport drill teams takes first

For the first time ever, the Newport High School Drill Team won the district drill competition.

 

For the first time ever, the Newport High School Drill Team won the district drill competition March 10 at Bothell High School. The 24-member team achieved the highest overall score and a superior ranking.

The team won four first-place finishes during the season. Team captains are Teresa Schaaf and Taylor Suyama; Newport’s coach is Leona Beutel. The team moves on to the state competition March 23 at the Sun Dome in Yakima. Newport won the state title in 2008.
