What is the most pressing issue in Bellevue, and how would you deal with it?

The troubled economy and its effects on Bellevue’s ability to deliver services is our most pressing issue. To accomplish this, we must first set priorities for the city’s spending and uphold our responsibilities to public safety and human services while keeping a lid on taxes for individuals and business. We must then address the city-provided infrastructure needs for neighborhoods and business to include roads, water and sewer, while also providing strong guidance and leadership for regional infrastructure investments in light rail, highways, electrical and gas. Additionally, we must continue to support economic development and honor our promises to park voters.

What makes you the better choice for the council than your opponents?

I have more relevant experience than either of my opponents, passion for Bellevue and 33 years of community experience! I share Bellevue’s values and am a champion for human services. I’ve served on the School Board, City Council and as your mayor. I’ve helped grow a business. I’ve a track record of effective, financially sound, and visionary leadership, co-chairing the Downtown Plan for three years and the Bel/Red land use study for two years, leading to a nationally recognized plan. I’m known as a passionate, prepared, pragmatic voice on council and have been endorsed by the last 11 Bellevue mayors.
