Medina to shred documents, take back drugs

Medina will hold a "shredder day" and "drug take back day" on Saturday, April 13.

Medina will hold a “shredder day” and “drug take back day” on Saturday, April 13. The 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. event will be at Medina Park (across from St Thomas Episcopal Church). A Data Base Secure Shred truck will on hand and people can watch as their documents are shredded.

Medina Police say the event is an opportunity to protect themselves from identity theft and is sponsored by the Medina Police Department’s Crime Prevention Program. Police have investigated over 70 cases of identity theft since 2008, and it continues to be a problem.

The drug “take-back” program will provide residents with free, anonymous collection of unwanted or expired medicines. It is being offered in response to rising rates of prescription drug abuse and the need for safe drug disposal.

People bringing drugs are asked to remove any identifying information from the prescription label. No injectibles, syringes or medical waste will be accepted.
