The Medina City Council voted unanimously against a formal censure against former Deputy Mayor Shawn Whitney after she filed a public records lawsuit against the city over the case of fired Police Chief Jeffrey Chen.

The council’s vote came after a venting of frustration from Mayor Bret Jordan, who indicated he felt let down by Whitney’s action.

The council previously voted in favor of presenting a motion to censure Whitney, as well as strip her of her role as deputy mayor, and abolish the city’s finance committee, which she chaired.

Whitney filed suit last month after she was told the city was not in possession of a document known as the Bolasina Report that was instrumental in the firing of Chen, who was let go back in April.
