A 27-year-old man was taken into custody by Bellevue Police at 7:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5 after a day-long standoff at the Hidden Village Apartments.
The incident began about 11:45 a.m. when police responded to a domestic violence at the apartment complex located in the 14500 block of SE 24th Street.
A 14-year-old boy called a relative to report a man assaulting a woman at an apartment and stated that the man was armed with handgun. The relative then called 911.
While police were responding to the location, the victim fled the apartment with two small children. Bellevue police arrived and learned from the female victim that the suspect had pointed a firearm at her and then physically assaulted her.
Police were able to make initial contact with the suspect inside the apartment, however the suspect refused to negotiate. The Bellevue SWAT team was deployed, and deployed chemical agents into the apartment in an effort to force the suspect to surrender.
The apartment building was evacuated but the apartment where the standoff occurred and surrounding units may need decontamination after SWAT team saturated the area with chemical agents.
A 3-month-old puppy was taken from the apartment and treated at a nearby vet hospital for chemical exposure. The victim and her children stayed at an undisclosed location for the night.
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for Assault 1st degree.
