The last steel beam — almost entirely covered with the messy, loopy signatures of Enatai Elementary School students — was placed on top of the new Enatai location during a “topping ceremony” on Jan. 22.
The ceremony marked a major milestone for the construction of the new two-story, 93,849-square-foot Enatai Elementary School. With the placement of that last steel beam, the Enatai community is that much closer to inhabiting their new school.
The $30-million construction project will replace the old Enatai Elementary School, which was leveled this summer. Students are temporarily located at the comer Bellewood Elementary School near Main Street and 151st Place Northeast, which the district uses as a swing site when schools are under construction.
When completed, the school will be state-of-the-art, utilizing LED lighting and geothermal energy among other energy efficient technologies. It will have an improved traffic flow pattern and a synthetic turf field.
The new Enatai Elementary is slated to open in fall 2016.
