Komen group raises $180,000 at lucheon

The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently raised more than $180,000 during their 6th Annual Power of a Promise Luncheon at the Westin Bellevue on Saturday, Oct. 28. More than 450 members of the Eastside and Seattle community gathered to make a power statement in the fight against breast cancer.

The event was emceed by KING TV’s Jean Enersen with keynote speaker Kim Carlos, breast cancer survivor and author of Nordies at Noon: The Personal Stories of Four Women “Too Young” for Breast Cancer.

Seventy-five percent of the funds raised by the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure remain in the local community to fund educational outreach, screening and treatment programs for underserved women in the community. The remaining 25 percent supports the Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program, which funds breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
