French students to visit French Immersion School of Washington

Third, fourth and fifth graders from Miserey in Normandy, France will visit their American penpals and the United States for the first time from March 21-30.

The students will be guests of the French Immersion School of Washington (FISW).

Students from FISW, which is located in Bellevue, have have visited France on three separate occasions, but this is the first opportunity the French students have had to visit the United States.

Miserey is a small village of 500 in Normandy, France, where the students walk to school daily. It is rare for French schools to obtain the authorization from the French Ministry of Education to travel abroad. However, careful, long-term planning by the teachers of FISW and the school in Miserey, Ecole des champs, were able to create the opportunity. The trip has been planned for over a year.

In addition to attending classes at FISW, the students from Miserey will visit the Seattle Aquarium, the Tacoma History Museum and the Museum of Glass. Additionally, since most of the students have never seen snow, they’ll take both a day trip to Mount Rainier and take part in an afternoon of snow tubing. The French Immersion School of Washington is a non-profit, bilingual day school for all children aged 2 1/2 to 11 years old. The school adheres to the curriculum of the French Ministry of Education.
