Registration is now open for the FACES (Families and Children Early Support) East free workshop “Social-Emotional Development in Children Birth to 6: Skills for Parents, Early Learning Professionals and elementary School Teachers.” The workshop will be given by Kevin Haggerty and Rebecca Cortes.

Registration and light snacks begin at 8:30 a.m. and the training is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. March 19 at the King County Library System’s service center at 960 Newport Way NW, Issaquah.

The workshop will discuss how social and emotional skills are the foundation for learning, both in getting children ready for school and across the lifespan. Also covered will be how, when and where do children learn these skills, and can they be taught and learned at any time in any context?

Cortes is a developmental psychologist and has been studying children’s social and emotional development from a bioecological framework for the past 13 years. She is a co-author of Preschool PATHS®, an evidence-based social and emotional curriculum that was originally developed for children attending Head Start and is now used widely around the globe.
