Former Medina Police Chief Jeffrey Chen is in line to become chief of the Lebanon, Ore., police department.
Chen, the number two choice behind Mark Daniel, a captain in the Sherwood Police Department, has been offered the job after Daniel notified Lebanon City Manager John Hitt that he had doubts the job would be a good fit for him.
Chen was fired in April 2011 after nearly four months of investigation into his conduct. Investigations concluded that Chen improperly accessed the city’s email system, destroyed public records, and voided tickets for friends. He was accused of not cooperating with the city’s investigation, as well.
Chen said he was fired for blowing the whistle on City Manager Donna Hanson. He told council members that she was attempting to sneak salary raises into the 2010 budget.
Chen filed a federal suit against Medina last December, claiming wrongful termination and racial discrimination.
The one- to two-week trial is scheduled to be heard in federal court beginning Feb. 4, 2013.
