Tillicum Middle School teacher Matthew J. Jones, 31, was charged today with child rape in the third degree after being caught having sex with a 16-year-old former student at Lattawood Park.

Just before 2 a.m., March 20, Bellevue police came across Jones and the teen girl naked in the back seat of his 2009 Honda Civic, according to documents from the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jones is also charged with child molestation in the third degree and sexual misconduct with a minor in the first degree, according to court documents.

The relationship, which police described as consensual, allegedly began when the girl was 15 and became sexual in the summer of 2010, when the meetings in Lattawood Park began.

According to court documents, Jones had been one of the girl’s 7th and 8th grade science teachers at a Bellevue middle school. He resigned from the school district last week amid allegations of inappropriate conduct with the girl, according to a letter to parents March 22 from Tillicum principal Dion Yahoudy.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on April 14.

Jones is listed as a Longview resident.
