Fatal crash on 148th splits car in two

A 19-year-old Bellevue resident was killed when his car hit a concrete light post and a tree, splitting the car in two and sending the tree crashing on top of a vehicle that had stopped to help.

A 19-year-old Bellevue resident was killed when his car hit a concrete light post and a tree, splitting the car in two and sending the tree crashing on top of a vehicle that had stopped to help.

At approximately 7:41 p.m. on Oct. 14, Bellevue Police responded to the crash and found the vehicle in the Southbound lanes of 148th Avenue and the deceased driver inside.

Early reports indicate that the driver died as a result of injuries sustained. His name is not being released pending the notification of his family.

Investigators from the Bellevue Police Department are working to determine the events leading up to this crash. Early information gathered from witnesses at the scene revealed that immediately prior to the crash, the victim’s vehicle was traveling southbound on 148th Avenue S.E. at a high rate of speed.

148th Avenue SE was closed between Main Street and SE 8th Street for the police investigation, and reopened at approximately 4:00 a.m.
