Property owners, employers, students and others in the city’s Eastgate/I-90 area are invited to attend one of two open houses on Wednesday, March 31.

The purpose of the events is to introduce a new land use and transportation study for the area, which is home to nearly 20 percent of the city’s work force.

The open houses will let attendees ask questions and offer suggestions about what’s missing from the area and what’s needed to make it a more desirable place to live and work.

The open houses will be held at different times and locations:

Robinswood House, 2430 148th Ave. S.E., from 1-3 p.m., with a presentation at 1:30 p.m.;

Eastgate Elementary School, 4255 153rd Ave. S.E., from 5-7 p.m., with a presentation at 5:30 p.m.

In the coming months, a City Council-appointed advisory committee, along with staff, will work on the project. The goal is to examine land use, transportation and urban design in the corridor, in order to create a vision for the future.

Open house topics will include: economic vitality, what it’s like to travel through the corridor, the relationship of neighborhoods in the corridor, future opportunities with Bellevue College, environmental health, and the I-90 freeway interchanges at Eastgate and at Lakemont Boulevard.

One topic that will not be part of the open houses is the potential annexation of unincorporated areas just south of the Eastgate/I-90 Project area. These areas of King County, surrounded by Bellevue, will be part of a separate, future effort to engage those residents.
