A cougar sighting July 30 in the area of the 1800 block of Evergreen Point Road has since been confirmed by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife from tracks located in the area. There have been no additional sightings since that time.
While it is possible the cougar may have left the area, Medina Police say they will continue to act and respond as if it is still present in the community until it officials have definitive evidence to the contrary.
Wildlife experts note that cougars are primarily nocturnal. If residents encounter the Cougar, they should attempt to make themselves appear as large as possible in order to intimidate the cat. Also, they should not approach it and immediately call 911.
Until there is a resolution, people should not leave small children unattended and keep pets inside.
