City landscape a challenge when snow, ice hit

Bellevue’s 1,400-foot-plus elevation range from Lake Washington to Cougar Mountain is the most of any city in the area and presents challenges when snow and ice hit, officials say. Residents should not drive, if possible. Drivers should prepare themselves and their vehicles and expect a difficult commute Wednesday morning.

The city is urging drivers to avoid commute times, allow more time for trips and keep greater following distances between cars. Drivers also should give plow and sander operators plenty of room to work, because they cannot clear roads of snow and ice if cars are in the way.
