Censured Medina Council member suggests he could sue for $10 million

Medina Council member suggests he could sue city

Medina Mayor Mark Nelson is expected to make a statement Monday evening about possible litigation tied to the October 2008 censure of councilmember Lucius Biglow.

Biglow, who claims the censure was wrong, demanded in an April 14 letter to the city attorney that the council should rescind that action and pay $10,979 in legal fees that he incurred while dealing with the matter.

If not, Biglow wrote, he will sue everyone he believes to be collectively responsible for $10 million for “defamation (slander and libel) and conspiracy to defame.”

Among those he named as targets were three Medina resident, two female police staff, and “certain members of the Council who conspired with the others.”

The council censured Biglow for communications that his colleagues found to be inappropriate, and which involved comments about race and sex.

Biglow stated in an April 30 letter to the city attorney that he believed the censure action was “based on misrepresentations, misunderstandings and a total lack of credible evidence.”
