Three candidates filed with King County Elections to vie for the 41st District state Senate seat, prompting a primary election for this seat in August.
Incumbent Sen. Steve Litzow, R-Mercer Island, will run against Democrat Mercer Island resident and business CEO Lisa Wellman (D) and Libertarian candidate Bryan Simonson, of Bellevue.
For the 41st District’s state representative, Position 2, incumbent Judith Clibborn, D-Mercer Island, will run against Bellevue resident Michael Appleby, a Republican; Democrat William Popp, Sr. and Mercer Islander Angel Jordan, a Libertarian.
Five candidates are running for the Congressional District 9’s U.S. representative position, including incumbent Rep. Adam Smith (D), Doug Basler (R), Jeary Flener (no party preference), Daniel Smith (D) and Jesse Wineberry (D). District 9’s coverage includes Bellevue.
The top two vote-getters for the senator, Position 2 and Congressional seats in August will advance to the general election in November.
Two candidates will bid for the 41st District’s Position 1 seat this November, including incumbent Rep. Tana Senn, D-Mercer Island, and Bellevue resident John Pass, a Republican.
In the 48th District, which consists of areas of Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond, both representative positions were open, with two candidates filing for each spot.
Incumbent Patty Kuderer, D-Bellevue, faces off with Kirkland Libertarian Michelle Darnell for representative Position 1.
In the Position 2 race, incumbent Joan McBride, D-Kirkland, will run against Libertarian Benjamin Judah Phelps from Bellevue.
Several Bellevue residents also filed for various statewide seats.
Bellevue resident Bill Hirt (R) filed his bid for the governor seat against incumbent Gov. Jay Inslee, D-Seattle, and nine other candidates.
Three Bellevue residents also filed for lieutenant governor, including 48th District Sen. Cyrus Habib, D-Bellevue; Phillip Yin (R) and Karen Wallace (D).
Bellevue resident Mark Wilson (Independent) will face off against four candidates for state auditor.
King County Elections’ filing deadline was Friday.
