The Bellevue and Seattle business communities will be well-represented at a Friday memorial for Cathy Munson, who died June 23 at the age of 59.
A member of the management team at Schnitzer West, a real estate investment, development and property management company, Munson also served on the boards of the Bellevue Downtown Association and Bellevue Chamber of Commerce.
“She brought her best to each situation, too,” said BDA President Patrick Bannon of Munson’s service on the association’s finance committee. “She had a lot of experience to offer to the conversation and always helped us look at the big picture.”
Munson also served for several years on the chamber of commerce’s executive committee as vice chairwoman of community collaboration. Under her leadership, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy was created, said Betty Nokes, chamber president and CEO. She was honored during Thursday’s scholarship program event, though in life Munson liked to work behind the scenes.
“I think she was one of those leaders who never wanted the attention on herself,” Nokes said.
Before moving to the Seattle/Bellevue area, Munson spent 20 years working for real estate leader Norris Beggs and Simpson. She was born and raised in Eugene, Ore., and attended the University of Oregon there. She received a degree in economics in 1976.
A memorial service for Munson will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Kent First Baptist Church, 11420 S.E. 248th St., Kent.
