Body found in Lake Washington, may be missing boater

A body was found just after noon Friday, June 5, in Lake Washington near Juanita Park.

Sheriff’s deputies believe it may be the man who went missing Thursday night after the boat he was in ran out of gas.

Kirkland Police were called to the 9700 block of NE Juanita Drive after someone saw what they thought might be a body about 20 feet off shore. Kirkland called the Sheriff’s Office and the Seattle Harbor Patrol. Seattle arrived first and retrieved the body.

Thursday night marine units from the Sheriff’s Office and Seattle Police searched the eastern part of Lake Washington, north of the I-520 bridge, after a man swam to shore in Kirkland, arriving about 12:30 a.m. He had gone into the water about an hour and a half earlier and his boat was pushed away by the wind. He said his friend was in the water as well, but that person was not located.

No identification was found on the body and it will be up to the Medical Examiner to determine the man’s identity.
