The third annual Lake Hills Blueberry Festival, a celebration of the neighborhood and its elementary school featuring the area’s rich harvest of berries, will be Saturday, Aug. 21, at Lake Hills Elementary School.
Sponsored by numerous community partners, the event will be 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school, 14310 SE 12th St. A free blueberry pancake breakfast, 9:30 to 10:30, will be followed by free family activities on “Blueberry Lane” including:
Live music, games, arts and crafts, and face painting;
Assistance and information about a variety of local human services programs;
Interactive demonstrations and a tour to help children and families learn all of the “ins and outs” of riding a school bus for the first time;
Visits from Bellevue police officers and firefighters; and
Art, produce and blueberry pies for sale.
The blueberries for the festival come from the Mercer Slough Blueberry Farm, donated by Bill Pace Fruit and Produce, which operates the farm and produce stand.
Festival goers are encouraged to take a short walk to the neighboring Jubilee REACH Center (14200 SE 13th Pl.) to shop a yard sale and watch a magic show. There will also be a dental van on-site where elementary-age students can receive a free dental screening.
Parking is limited, so event visitors are encouraged to walk, ride the bus or carpool.
The event is cosponsored by the city of Bellevue, Bellevue School District, United Way of King County, Lake Hills Neighborhood Association, Jubilee REACH Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue and Bellevue Family YMCA.
Lake Hills Elementary is home to the Wrap-Around Services Program which is a collaboration of the city, school district, United Way and East Bellevue Community Council.
