Bellevue School board narrows superintendent search

The Bellevue school board may be seriously considering one or more candidates to be the new superintendent.

The Bellevue school board may be seriously considering one or more candidates to be the new superintendent.

While the board’s 7:45 a.m. meeting earlier this morning at the Educational Service Center happened after the Bellevue Reporter’s deadline, schools spokesperson Jacque Coe said Thursday that the board may be going public with its intentions toward specific applicants today.

One of these candidates may be Susan Enfield, current Seattle schools supt., who initially went head-to-head with Amalia Cudeiro for the Bellevue position in 2008. Enfield sent the school board a letter of

interest after Cudeiro resigned Jan. 31.

One of the reasons to speed up the superintendent search process is that nearby districts are also hiring.

The school board made the decision to possibly go public with its endorsement of specific candidates happened at the first of three public

input sessions Wednesday night.

Using the 2008 list of desired characteristics developed by the recruitment firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates as a starting point for this discussion, the school board received additional feedback

on what community members are looking for in a new superintendent.

Familiarity with Washington State, having a strong presence in Olympia, valuing cultural diversity, and possessing a personable, approachable nature were some of the themes that parents and teachers said that they

wanted in the new superintendent.

Community members still have a chance to provide input as the school board makes its decision. Information gathered from the input sessions will be taken into consideration when the board is evaluating

candidates.

The sessions will be:

– 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Wilburton Instructional Center’s board room, 12241 Main Str., Bellevue.

– 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16 at Sammamish High School Performing Arts Center, 100 140th Ave. SE, Bellevue.
