Bellevue police are investigating the suspicious death of a man who officers dragged out of a burning apartment unit after neighbors reported hearing gunshots

Update: Police do not suspect foul play in the unidentified man’s death, and the King County Medical Examiner reported it was a suicide. The cause of the first is still being investigated.

Bellevue police are investigating the suspicious death of a man who officers dragged out of a burning apartment unit after neighbors reported hearing gunshots this morning.

Shortly after 2:15 a.m., police responded to the Meydenbauer Luxury Apartments located at 10022 Meydenbauer Way SE after residents reported hearing several gunshots.

While attempting to locate the source of the shots, officers saw smoke coming from a unit in the complex. Police forced their way into the apartment, located a 40-year-old male on the floor and dragged him out of the apartment, according to a Bellevue police press release. They determined the man was deceased.

Bellevue firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze.

Detectives are on scene conducting a joint investigation with investigators from the Bellevue Fire Department. Investigators believe the report of shots fired, the fire and the deceased man are all related to a single incident.

Police officials said there does not appear to be any ongoing danger to the community. One police officer was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire department and Red Cross are caring for displaced residents until the building is cleared for occupancy.
