Bellevue man wins state lottery, shares winnings

A Bellevue man who won close to $200,000 in the lottery plans to share a portion of his winnings with 20 people.

A Bellevue man who won close to $200,000 in the lottery plans to share a portion of his winnings with 20 people.

It was announced on Monday, Aug. 10 that the man, identified as John Potts, took home $190,000 on July 28. He will divide $20,000 of his winnings between 20 people, giving each $1,000.

“I usually play Hit 5 when I put gas in my car. I realized I won a few days after I bought the ticket, and I was in complete denial.” he shared with Lottery officials. He said he first told his oldest son about the big win.

“He couldn’t believe it either. But after all the excitement, I had some time to make to-do lists. First, I’m going to gift out $20,000 to family and friends. The gifting is more fun than the actual win!”

The longtime Washington resident also shared plans to pay his second mortgage. “Other than that, I might just have to buy a new flat-screen TV and some tennis shoes!
