Jess Ramaker of Bellevue celebrated his 90th birthday Wednesday. He marked the occasion by doing what he does every Wednesday and worked his volunteer shift at Overlake Hospital Medical Center.

Ramaker is one of more than 700 volunteers at Overlake and has spent the last 24 years donating his time here. He currently works in the transport department, taking patients to imaging appointments and throughout the hospital as needed, delivering specimens to the lab and transporting medical charts.

The tall, trim Ramaker credits his volunteer work with keeping him active and healthy.

“I’m here today at 90 and in good health because I keep busy at Overlake and get regular exercise,” he said, adding that his father set a good example and he has simply followed in his footsteps.

His fellow volunteers surprised Ramaker with a small birthday cake, flowers and cards.
