Bellevue resident Nares Lekhakul, 36, and his brother, Naris Lekhakul, 42, of Thailand, will appear in U.S. District Court in Seattle, Monday afternoon for their involvement in a web of illegally trafficked firearms to Thailand. The brothers and four others from Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Berkeley, are believed to have made more than 250 shipments of firearm components to the country, beginning as early as 2011.
According to charging papers, the six indicted did not obtain appropriate licenses to make the shipments, using instead fake labels and names to transport the items. Magazines for .45 caliber handguns, for instance, were labeled “replacement springs and metal caps for bottling machine.”
Witt Sittikornwanish, 24, of Los Angeles, Wimol Brumme, a Thai citizen living in Las Vegas, Sangsit Mowanna, 35 of Los Angeles, and Supanee Saenguthai, 35, a Thai citizen living in Berkeley were also indicted.
The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
